ETH Industry Day: Hands-on research and innovation
Events
The ETH Industry Day on 21 November 2024 is a unique opportunity to gain insight into ETH research and its application in the industry. This year, it will take on a new dimension as part of Open-i at the Zurich Convention Center. The first highlights are confirmed, and registration for the event is now open.
Digital twins for the machine industry
- Innosuisse project
- Industry Projects
What is a digital twin, what can it do, and what requirements does it have to meet to be of practical use in the machine industry? ETH researchers and three companies investigated these questions and came up with some surprising results.?
Revolutionising computer tomography with photon counting
- Innosuisse project
- Industry Projects
Computer tomography (CT) is indispensable in modern medicine, but CT scanners could achieve so much more with better imaging and less X-ray exposure. In a project with industrial partner ams International AG, ETH researchers are testing new materials for the promising photon counting method.
Redirecting immune cells against cancer
Entrepreneurship
ETH spin-off Engimmune Therapeutics has developed technologies to engineer T-cell receptors (TCRs) which are part of immune cells. Guided by machine learning, the technologies enable the development of TCR drugs that specifically target solid tumours. This emerging therapeutic approach is scalable and less costly than other modalities such as cell therapies.
Recyclable batteries for tomorrow’s cars
- Entrepreneurship
- Sustainability
Lithium-ion solid-state batteries are the batteries of the future. However, their mass production is still too expensive. ETH spin-off Eightinks is developing a manufacturing technology for the mass production of new battery materials and designs. In addition to the scalability of the technology, the goal is also a complete circular economy for batteries.
Processing documents automatically
- Innosuisse project
- Entrepreneurship
Companies process dozens of customer orders, order confirmations, delivery notes, and invoices every day. ETH spin-off BLP Digital is revolutionising resource planning with an application that saves costs and reduces the potential for errors. Their collaboration with ETH brought the young company a significant step forward.
A global platform for biodiversity monitoring
- Sustainability
- Entrepreneurship
New environmental standards and regulations require corporations to monitor their biodiversity risks and offset their impact on nature. ETH Spin-off SimplexDNA has developed a methodology that enables global biodiversity monitoring.
A robot takes its pick
- Innosuisse project
- Entrepreneurship
Agriculture is a very labour-intensive business and finding the workforce is increasingly difficult. Wouldn’t it be great to let a robot do the work??
Reduce your stress
Entrepreneurship
Breathing and heart activity reveal something about our stress levels. No smartwatch can measure stress and breathing activity in real-time, but Oxa, the new product from ETH Spin-off Nanoleq does exactly that.
Lightweight with maximum surface area
Entrepreneurship
Metal foams are used in many applications, including cooling and filtration. Start-up Apheros' novel metal foams offer unprecedented properties.
Computer vision for optimised ground operations
- Entrepreneurship
- Sustainability
Touchdown, park, hook up, unload, clean, refuel, load, and depart – every minute counts when it comes to aeroplane turnarounds. ETH Spin-off Assaia’s technology revolutionises the workflow on the tarmac to make it more efficient, safer, and sustainable.
Chicken feed with benefits for animals and nature
- Entrepreneurship
- Innosuisse project
Insects enrich the diet of laying hens and bring fun to the chicken farm. ETH spin-off SmartBreed has developed a technology that enables insect breeding on the farm and provides far more than just protein snacks.
Intelligent traffic lights for optimal traffic flow
Entrepreneurship
Traffic jams and long waiting times at junctions in city centres are part of our everyday lives - be it as pedestrians, public transport users or motorists. ETH spin-off Lumisera promises a significantly improved traffic flow with self-regulated traffic light systems.
Managing pandemics by analysing wastewater
Industry Projects
Wastewater analyses provide information on the spread of diseases in the population - an important tool for monitoring the further course of the pandemic.
A friend for your teeth
Entrepreneurship
There is no longer any reason to leave our dental health to chance. A new device allows us to self-monitor our oral hygiene and alerts us when it is time to visit the dentist or dental hygienist.
A guardian angel for the respiratory system
Entrepreneurship
Patients with chronic respiratory diseases can heave a sigh of relief. Thanks to ETH spin-off Resmonics, there is now a certified monitoring system that keeps track of their illness during their sleep and raises the alarm if necessary.
Funding for innovation
Events
Is it possible to finance my innovation project via national or European funding? As a Swiss company or ETH researcher, you can learn how to apply for funding most efficiently at an information event at ETH on September 8, 2021.
24-hour shopping round the corner
Entrepreneurship
It is the middle of the night. Your baby is hungry, but you have run out of formula milk. What now? This is not exactly the time to call on your friendly neighbour. But where can you buy anything at this time?
Innovative talent scouting
Entrepreneurship
How does your company recruit its best talents, and how much effort do you put into it? Numerous companies have recently started using a platform developed at ETH Zurich, which has already provided them with 5,000 young talents with minimal effort.
Additive manufacturing for more sustainability
Entrepreneurship
Car or aeroplane components made of carbon fibre composites are much lighter than metal parts. If such components were digitally and cost-effectively mass-produced, the CO2 emissions of an aircraft could be reduced by several tons. To this end, ETH spin-off 9T Labs provides solutions.
